Asthma Awareness Trust (AAT) believes in communication. An initiative by people from all walks of life, AAT works at the grassroots focusing on obstructive airway diseases. Over the last decade, we have found language barrier as a major obstacle in health worker-patient communication. Most of the time the burnt is borne by the patients.
Kolkata is now bestowed with some of the best health care facilities in India. People from all over Bengal and neighboring countries flock here. Patients love to express their problems in their mother tongue. They may not know English. Medical workers from other states may not be conversant with Bengali, particularly colloquial Bengali. One may attend any private sector clinic in Kolkata to get a glimpse of the enormity of the problem.
This is a humble initiative to help you understand just enough Bengali to serve your patients.
